HRH Princess Anne the Princess Royal has presented a medal to a lifeboatman who battled hurricane-like conditions to save the lives eight people on board a French yacht.Coxswain Patch Harvey was awarded the Silver Medal for Gallantry by Princess Anne as he stood alongside his wife,Nina,at a garden party to celebrate the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's 200th anniversary.HRH Edward Duke of Kent also attended.*Reported by Matt Blair and edited by Andrew Taylor

HRH Edward Duke of Kent,cousin of Queen Elizabeth II,is retiring as Colonel of the Scots Guards.He will be succeeded by HRH Prince Edward the Duke of Edinburgh.HRH the Duke of Kent is himself a British Army veteran,serving for 21 years.In 1974 he became Colonel of the Scots Guards,serving for 50 years.The Scots Guards have served in both World Wars,the Falklands War and Afghanistan.They are stationed at Wellington Barracks,London.
