Update on Iran Helicopter Crash

It's been confirmed that both Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirab Dallahian have been found dead in the helicopter crash of 19 May 2024.Other Iranian officials were also found dead in the crash, which has been blamed on poor weather.Their were nine people on board the helicopter and no survivors. It crashed in a remote mountainous region of East Azerbaijan Province of Iran.*Analysis:President Raisi,a hardline figure, was disliked by the Iranian people as he was deemed responsible for the execution of thousands of Iranians in the 1980s.He also oversaw supression of demonstrations over the death of an Iranian woman,Masha Amini,on 16 September 2022 while in government custody. She had been arrested by the morality police for not wearing a hijab and was reportedly beaten so badly that she died in hospital. So while a display of mourning is staged by the theocratic regime, the Iranian people will not likely concur. It is possible that the event may cause a degree of unrest among the public as they express dissatisfaction with the hardline regime. There are pro-democracy elements among the Iranian people.
