Ecumenical Patriarch Leaves for Rome

From 19-22 October, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be visiting Rome.On 20 October, Patriarch Bartholomew will attend the event No One Is Saved Alone Peace and Fraternity- International Meetings of Prayer for Peace The event is sponsored by the Catholic lay social services organisation the Community of Sant'Egidio.CSE is a worldwide movement of lay people based on prayer, solidarity, ecumenism and dialogue.It is named after the former Carmelite monastery where it is headquartered. Also attending will be His Holiness Pope Francis and Ursula van der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and representatives of Buddhism,Islam and Judaism. At this difficult time of the pandemic and wars such as those in Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh, the Meeting will offer the world a solemn moment of reflection and prayer, with a message of hope for the future in the name of the greater good which is peace.* On 21 October, His All-Holiness will attend the beginning of the academic year at the Pontifical University of Antonianum with His Eminence Pietro Cardinal Parolin, the Cardinal Secretary of State.At the ceremony,Patriarch Bartholomew is to receive a doctorate honoris causa from the Pontifical University.* Another major event of the trip will be Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew's special meeting and luncheon with Pope Francis.Additionally, Patriarch Bartholomew will pay a ceremonial visit to the Ambassadors to the Vatican from Greece and Turkey.* Accompanying Patriarch Bartholomew will be His Eminence Metropolitan Emmanuel of France;His Grace Bishop Kassianos of Aravissos,Abbot of Holy Trinity Monastery,Halki;and Patriarchal Deacon Iakovos Krochak.
