Rachmaninoff wrote most of his work before he left Russia for exile in the US at age 44.He wrote only 18 more works in his adopted country.He would spend the rest of his life trying to recreate Russian culture in exile.As an aristocrat from a family estate,he hated Lenin and Bolshevism.It was the reason he left the Soviet Union;but in his mind he never left Russia.
